Subject: | [CPEO-MEF] Army plans to end Devens cleanup in 2005 |
Massachusetts HARVARD HILLSIDE Army plans to end Devens cleanup in 2005 By By C. David Gordon September 10, 2003 DEVENS -- Base Realignment and Closure Coordinator Ben Goff told members of the Devens Restoration Advisory Board that all environmental cleanup projects on the former Army base "need to be done by the end of fiscal year 2005." Goff's office at Devens works with the Environmental Protection Agency, state Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Army to oversee cleanup of all contamination sites on Devens. "The BRAC cycle is to end in 2005," Goff told the RAB. "An exit strategy leading to this must be put together." Land that had been part of the former Sudbury Annex and that of the Hingham Annex have already been transferred. "Now we plan to get Devens done," he said. "Findings of suitability" for transfer are being pursued for six separate small areas. And those specific areas of contamination that have "records of decision" will be monitored for years to come by the Army Corps of Engineers.
