Subject: | [CPEO-MEF] Storm Debris Includes Unexploded Ordnance |
The following newsflash can be viewed online at: http://www.wavy.com/Global/story.asp?S=1458681&nav=23iiICsG ____________________________________________________ Virginia WAVY-10 Storm Debris Includes Unexploded Ordnance September 26, 2003 (AP)-Authorities say Hurricane Isabel has been responsible for an unwelcome surprise in communities along the Chesapeake Bay -- unexploded military ordnance. The explosives have been washing up with storm debris on shore and turning up in fishing nets. Maryland Deputy State Fire Marshal Faron Taylor says they've been in the bay for years -- leftover from the days when the military used bay islands for target practice. Taylor says the devices come in all shapes in sizes, but are often metallic and may have military markings. He says anyone finding the devices should call authorities. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CPEO: A DECADE OF SUCCESS.
