A New Orleans conference explores the environmental impacts of military 
ranges and training sites used to evaluate weapons and to train military 
personnel for conflict. DOD's goal to "train as we fight" is running into 
conflict with adjacent communities and competition for airspace. The 
conference goal is to find "solutions for the competing demands of 
development, environmental stewardship, commerce, and long-term air, land, 
and sea-training needs." The technical program includes between 100 and 200 
presentations ranging from noise abatement and marine mammal protection to 
cleanup of munitions and explosives. The meeting will be sponsored by
