Contamination of drinking water, groundwater or soil by perchlorate, the main component of solid rocket fuel, has been confirmed by testing of at least 34 Department of Defense (DOD) facilities in 15 states, according to Environmental Working Group's analysis of federal and state data. EWG has also identified 63 military sites in 32 states where perchlorate contamination is likely, but where testing has not been conducted.
