One negotiated settlement for a portion of the resource damages by the DOE (radioactive contaminants discharged into the Clinch River) was the conservation easement placed on about 3000 acres of undeveloped reservation lands. This will protect a large tract of important habitat and allow limited access for recreational purposes. The public was included in hearings and input invited on a management plan for the tract of land. This is restitution to the State of Tennessee for damage to waters of the state.
