Cleaner water could prevent bases from closing

Cleaner water could be key in preventing Tar Heel bases from getting closed.

Monday, the Clean Water Management Trust Fund Board approved $3.5
million in grants to protect wetlands near two Tar Heel bases.

Monica Barkley is the President of Phoenix Construction. She is glad
Goldsboro will soon get state money to buy 500 acres along of
undeveloped land near Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

?Whatever it takes to keep the longevity and security of Seymour Johnson
in this area, I'm for it," she said.

The $1.7 million grant will help protect the Neuse River tributary's
water. The conservation project will also prevent future development
near the base.
