In a fact sheet released today, the state Department of Environmental Conservation announced a new plan to investigate contamination at an old military industrial site at the north end of Dewey Avenue. Air Force Plant 51, just south of Round Pond, was used during World War II to build ocean-going oil tankers and some of the landing craft used during the Normandy invasion. Tenants at the site today include a metal recycler, a window maker and a landscaper.
