Three projects to provide $7.6 million annual savings for the U.S. Navy Business First of Louisville (KY) September 3, 2004 The McConnell Technology & Training Center will undertake three additional projects for the U.S. Navy. The Navy estimates that these projects will provide $7,587,000 in annual cost avoidance, according to a news release. Two of the projects focus on removing contaminants from oils and lubricants used in diesel engines onboard ships. Oil and lubricant contamination are a major contributing factor to engine failure and costly engine repair. All ships in the Navy have at least one diesel engine. The third project focuses on modifying the projectile loading system of the Phalanx Close-In Weapons System. Failures of the projectile loading system account for 28 percent of all requisitioned parts for the Phalanx system in the past year. This project will affect the more than 250 Phalanx systems on board nearly every surface ship in the Navy. ... for the entire article, see http://louisville.bizjournals.com/louisville/stories/2004/08/30/daily44.html?jst=b_ln_hl -- Lenny Siegel Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight c/o PSC, 278-A Hope St., Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650/961-8918 or 650/969-1545 Fax: 650/961-8918 <lsiegel@cpeo.org> http://www.cpeo.org _______________________________________________ Military mailing list Military@list.cpeo.org http://www.cpeo.org/mailman/listinfo/military | |
