Air Force cleanup receives praise INLAND: Seven sites that were contaminated have been eliminated, a state EPA official says. By DOUGLAS QUAN Riverside Press-Enterprise (CA) September 16, 2004 RIVERSIDE - A state environment official Wednesday night praised the U.S. Air Force for the way it cleaned up the final seven contaminated sites related to the former March Air Force Base. "The Air Force really did a great job in taking proactive actions in taking care of these sites," said Stephen Niou, remedial project manager at the California Environmental Protection Agency's Department of Toxic Substances Control. Niou spoke during a meeting at the Ben Clark Public Safety Training Center intended to solicit public input into the Air Force's remediation efforts. Only a handful of people attended the meeting.
