State health officials review former Finland radar site Report focuses on contamination, prevention measures By Forrest Johnson Lake County News-Chronicle (MN) November 4, 2004 Is Lookout Mountain Village at the site of the former Finland Radar Station a safe and healthy place? The latest round of questions regarding the former Air Force early warning complex will be discussed by state health officials during a meeting Tuesday, Nov. 9, 7 p.m. at the Finland Fire Hall. At issue is the securing and closing off of various buildings that had caught the attention of the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) during the ongoing superfund site cleanup process originally implemented by the U.S. Department of Defense. Asbestos, lead paint, PCB allegations and solid waste were cited as potential hazards in a number of the buildings now owned by Finlandia L.L.C., a limited liability partnership which also owns and manages the 43 residential housing units on the property. ...
