Support groups look at alternatives following possible BRAC closure decisions By Gene Rector Macon Telegraph (GA) December 8, 2004 WARNER ROBINS - Support groups from more than half of Georgia's 13 military installations met in Atlanta on Tuesday to discuss the unthinkable - how to prepare for BRAC and the possibility of base closure. The meeting, attended by about 60 people from throughout the state, was organized by the Atlanta law firm of McKenna, Long and Aldridge and Hurt, Norton, a Washington, D.C., lobbying group. ... That prompted a significant discussion of alternatives if closure becomes inevitable, Tritt said. "Our panelists advised attendees to begin thinking of a plan B," he said. "You don't have to do it in a way that shows weakness, but you want to begin the process." Tritt said that doesn't mean hiring a team of master planners. "But communities need to get organized about what to do in the event they are on the closure list," he said. "It will be important to have a local reuse authority. During the previous four rounds of BRAC, the big disasters have come when communities did not have a functional, organized reuse authority to get things together and prevent infighting." ...
