Study targets Army's 'green bullets' By AMANDA LEHMERT Cape Cod Times December 13, 2004 Five years after the National Guard started using so-called environmentally friendly "green bullets" at Camp Edwards, scientific studies have raised questions about their toxicity and their solubility. Now the Army Environmental Center has agreed to pay for research at the Massachusetts Military Reservation that will determine just what happens to the tungsten-nylon bullets after they land on Cape soil. At a meeting with the Environmental Management Commission Wednesday night, Col. David Cunha, head of the Environmental and Readiness Center, announced the Army's decision to fund the project. The commission ensures the military complies with water and environmental protections at the base. "The concern is there," said. Col. Bill FitzPatrick of the Environmental and Readiness Center at Camp Edwards. "(But) the Army hasn't changed its opinion ... that the tungsten is a safe alternative to lead." ...
