CHARLESTOWN - Members of the Ninigret Park Contamination Study Committee
are seeking updated information from the state department of
environmental management and Army Corps of Engineers, regarding
documented contamination, including PCB contamination and an underground
gas plume, found on the former auxiliary Navy airfield.

According to board chairman Virginia Wootten, when representatives of
those two agencies - scheduled to meet with the committee last week to
present updates - were unable to attend, board members decided they were
willing to travel to the agencies' own turf, if that was what it took to
obtain more information.

"I will be contacting the DEM in Providence, and the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers, and attempting to set up a date we can come to meet with them
and discuss this, hopefully sometime in March," said Wootten.
