When time comes, airport panel will rush to study military basesBy Jeff Ristine San Diego UNION-TRIBUNE (CA) March 8, 2005 The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority plans to make every moment count when a moratorium on studying military sites for a possible future airport expires. The agency's board of directors yesterday scheduled a meeting for May 17, the day after the Pentagon releases proposed base closings, to decide how to proceed on the five military locations being considered as potential airport sites. The board previously agreed to defer studying the Miramar and North Island air stations, Camp Pendleton and two other U.S. Defense Department sites to avoid undermining efforts by the county's congressional delegation to protect the region's military infrastructure from this year's Base Realignment and Closure process. ...
