Dolphin Troubles May Be Related to Sonar Washington Post March 11, 2005 Wildlife workers are attempting to save some of the nearly 80 rough-toothed dolphins that beached themselves last week in the Florida Keys. Nearly 30 of the mammals have died, while more than 20 have returned to the ocean. The mass stranding occurred as a U.S. Navy submarine was conducting exercises in the area. The sub was using two types of active sonar, which allows subs and ships to locate one another by emitting sound waves that bounce off objects. ...
