Changes to zoning plan please most By Sarah Daniel The Sedalia Democrat (MO) March 30, 2005 Most Johnson County residents who opposed proposed state legislation that calls for zoning around Whiteman Air Force Base are pleased with changes in the bill. Johnson County residents initially challenged the bill because it made Knob Noster, a city where they have no vote, the governing authority over the area to be regulated. The bill was amended from a 2-mile zoning area around Knob Noster to 3,000 feet around WAFB and the "accident potential zones," which extend two miles off both ends of the runway. Rep. David Pearce, R-Warrensburg, changed the bill to give the Johnson County Commission zoning authority. He said House legislators intend to make the same amendment to the similar Senate bill. ...
