[Army Ammunition Plants historically have contained large amounts of asbestos materials. Does anyone know if there has ever been a systematic search for disposal sites like the ones mentioned in this article? - LS] More contamination found at CAAP By Tracy Overstreet Grand Island Independent (NE) March 31, 2005 Another pit of asbestos has been discovered at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant west of Grand Island. The pit was found about two weeks ago just west of Load Line 2, north of Old Potash Highway, said Joe Laird, CAAP project manager for the Army Corps of Engineers. It's the third pit announced in as many months. Two other asbestos pits, significantly smaller than the latest discovery, were uncovered along Load Line 1, just west of 60th Road. The existence of those pits was announced in January. ...
