Privatization continues in face of closure By Daniel Witter Marysville Appeal-Democrat (CA) April 10, 2005 Efforts to privatize Beale Air Force Base's military housing continues on despite the pending release of the Base Realignment and Closure list by May 16, base officials said. The privatization is in the second of a two-phase process, where potential contractors who want to take over the housing submit to the U.S. Air Force detailed plans on how they plan to manage housing. "We're looking at each of those individual proposals and seeing what is the best fit for Beale," said Capt. Mike Andrews, chief of the 9th Reconnaissance Wing public affairs office at Beale. The Pentagon wants new housing quickly and sees privatization as the best, least expensive answer. The conversion is expected to save money and let the Pentagon turn its attention to fighting wars. ...
