Homes and the rangeBY MICHELLE VOLKMANN Yuma Sun (AZ) April 11, 2005 Homeowners are less likely to have their windows rattled by low-flying jets if local officials embrace recommendations calling for no new development on the fringes of the Barry M. Goldwater Range, the commanding officer of Marine Corps Air Station Yuma said. "We, MCAS, sincerely hope this becomes a plan," Col. James Cooney said. "To me, that would be the best case." Last week, Deb Sydenham, assistant director of community development for the Arizona Department of Commerce, presented the results from the department's Barry M. Goldwater Range and Gila Bend Air Force Auxiliary Field Joint Land Use Study to the Yuma City Council and Yuma County Board of Supervisors. This study, which was the first for the range, was conducted to coordinate a land use program for military installations, landowners, city and county officials. ...
