Cleanup effort at former Finland Air Station to be discussed By Forrest Johnson Lake County News-Chronicle (MN) April 14, 2005 Some messes, especially toxic ones, just don't seem to go away. That's long been the case with the host of toxic hot spots discovered at the site of the former Finland Air Force Station. A community meeting will be held to discuss another of the cleanup projects, this time for issues discovered at the former Road Cut Dump. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host the informal meeting at the Finland Fire Hall on Highway 1, Wednesday April 20, 7-9 p.m. to discuss cleanup plans and alternatives. John Miller of the Corps said the meeting will primarily focus on the dump site, where test monitoring has revealed evidence of the presence of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), semivolatile organic compounds and heavy metals. Tests were done by trenching the site and other evidence appears to indicate that the site was used mostly for residential trash and other household and construction debris. ...
