Army says base not responsible for tainted well Military officials tell Sandwich selectmen that perchlorate at a private residence does not appear related to MMR pollution. By GEORGE BRENNAN Cape Cod Times (MA) April 24, 2005 FORESTDALE - The Army has found no link between Camp Edwards and contamination found in a private well in Forestdale. Thursday night, officials from the Army and Air Force updated Sandwich selectmen on groundwater cleanup at the Massachusetts Military Reservation over the past year. Army officials said the recent detection of perchlorate in a private well on Peters Pond Drive does not appear to be related to base pollution. Hap Gonser, program manager for the groundwater study, said testing of wells in the area continues, but has found no evidence the base is responsible for the small levels of perchlorate detected. The Army also plans to dig additional wells along the perimeter of the base to see whether there is a link to Peters Pond Drive. ...
