Ridge gets Florida Forever easement Tampa Bay Business Journal June 16, 2005 The Lake Wales Ridge ecosystem project stands to benefit from a state-backed program aimed at protecting natural resources while strengthening national security. Gov. Jeb Bush and the Florida Cabinet decided Thursday to acquire a perpetual conservation easement on 877 acres within the ecosystem through the Florida Forever program. The ecosystem, which stretches from southern Polk County to Lake Okeechobee, is said to support wildlife found nowhere else in the world. ... The 877-acre parcel borders Avon Park Air Force Range and is threatened by encroachment from citrus groves and development pressures. The perpetual conservation easement allows the property owner to continue using the land while protecting it from development. ...
