Navy: No proof that fuel leak contaminated well By Katie Worth Pacific Daily News (Guam) August 5, 2005 A jet fuel leak detected last month may not have anything to do with water contamination discovered at the same time in a nearby well, Navy officials said yesterday. It's possible that someone dumped some petroleum in the dump around the same time as the leak occurred, and that's how the well became contaminated, said Petty Officer 2nd Class Ben Keller of the Navy public affairs office. It's also possible that the source was historical pollution from a Guam Power Authority fuel line, not from one of the two Navy lines in the area, he said. Last month a 70-year-old Toto resident noticed a fuel smell in a bucket of water he pulled up from a well near his property. Shortly thereafter, it was discovered that a nearby pipeline running jet fuel from Big Navy in Santa Rita to Andersen Air Force Base was leaking out of a valve. ...
