EDWARDS LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL (NV) August 12, 2005 American Pacific Corp., which makes ammonium perchlorate for booster rockets on the space shuttle, in September plans to start cleaning up a plume of underground water contaminated with the chemical, Chief Executive Officer John Gibson said Thursday. The company discussed plans for the chemical cleanup in its third-quarter financial report, which includes a $22.4 million pretax charge for the environmental remediation program. American Pacific hopes to recover the funds through a surcharge on contracts or by increasing prices for some clients. Most of the contamination is believed to have occurred during decades of production at the Henderson plant, though some of the chemical leaked into groundwater when a series of explosions leveled the facility in 1988. ...
