EPA questions necessity of blasts By AMANDA LEHMERT Cape Cod Times (MA) August 18, 2006 MASHPEE - As National Guard officials work to create a system to ensure the public is notified of open detonations like those that rocked the Upper Cape this month, Environmental Protection Agency officials are questioning whether the explosions violated the base's protection orders. On Aug. 4, twin explosions intended to destroy 20 pieces of unexploded ordnance at Camp Edwards shook windows and prompted a flood of 911 calls. National Guard officials said last night at a public meeting in Mashpee that they will put standards in place to make sure the public will know about detonations in the future. ...
