Well Fields Test Negative For Explosives Associated Press Yankton Daily Press & Dakotan August 31, 2005 LINCOLN, Neb. -- Well fields in three cities have tested negative for contaminants from explosives, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said. The results were recently received from wells serving Lincoln, Ashland and Memphis. The corps has been working since the early 1990s to clean up contamination from the former Nebraska Ordnance Plant near Mead, which is 14 miles north of Ashland. Water was tested this spring and summer for an explosive known as RDX. A 20-square-mile pool of contamination has been identified in the aquifer upstream of the wells that serve the three cities. The site is included on the federal government's Superfund list of the nation's worst environmental problems. ...
