Perchlorate deal OK'dNikki Cobb San Bernardino County Sun (CA) September 8, 2005 RIALTO - City leaders have approved a county plan to staunch the plume of toxic perchlorate seeping toward the city's water supply. Perchlorate, an ingredient in munitions, fireworks and rocket fuel thought to cause thyroid malfunction, is oozing through underground waterways from county-owned land, where it originated, toward Rialto's Well No. 3. The city has filed lawsuits against San Bernardino County, the Defense Department and about 40 defense contractors over perchlorate contamination of the ground. Peter Fox, Rialto water superintendent, said that of all the parties held to be responsible for the contamination, the county has been the most responsive. ...
