Military officials want buffer zone around Camp Ripley

LITTLE FALLS, Minn. - In an attempt to make sure development doesn't
threaten operations at Camp Ripley, military officials plan to ask
nearby landowners to sell their property, or their development rights.

Officials are using $1.5 million from the Department of Defense to
protect a 3-mile circle of land around the military base, said Marty
Skoglund, the camp's environmental supervisor.

Camp officials want to either buy land within the buffer area or buy a
conservation easement, which limits development.
