Developer settles asbestos case Dangerous dirt - Families whose Klamath Falls homes were built on a contaminated site will receive $10.6 million BRYAN DENSON The Oregonian November 23, 2005 Eighteen Klamath Falls families whose homes were built on an asbestos burial site will get more than $10.6 million from the developers, according to a settlement released Tuesday. Lawyers for families living in the North Ridge Estates subdivision fought in state and federal courts for three years before reaching agreement with MBK Partnership, which built the homes, and the four people who made up the development company. ... Families living in the subdivision learned three years ago that their houses had been built on the site of a barracks constructed for U.S. Marines returning from World War II. As the buildings fell apart or were demolished, the soil became contaminated with tons of debris containing fibrous asbestos, which could be inhaled. ...
