[These appear to be Natural Resource Damage claims. - LS] Navy to pay $1.4 million for pollution around Quonset BY ARTHUR GREGG SULZBERGER Providence Journal (RI) January 13, 2006 Two lawsuits filed against the Navy for pollution at two sites in North Kingstown have been settled out of court for just over $1.4 million, Attorney General Patrick C. Lynch announced yesterday. The Navy will pay $1.2 million for disposing hazardous substances at the Allen Harbor landfill in Davisville and $215,000 for polluting nearby Calf Pasture Point, said Lynch. The sites were owned by the Navy from 1939 to 2001, when the land was transferred to North Kingstown. "The state is finally being compensated for the groundwater, wetlands, and shellfish resources that were irretrievably lost and damaged," said DEM Director W. Michael Sullivan in a news release. ...
