Sandwich awaits results of child cancer studyBy ROBIN LORD Cape Cod Times (MA) January 23, 2006 SANDWICH - Results of a Massachusetts Department of Public Health investigation into whether there are elevated cancer rates among children in Sandwich are expected to be released by the end of the month, according to a department spokeswoman. ... The 22,000-acre Massachusetts Military Reservation, part of which stretches into Sandwich, is a federal Superfund site because of groundwater contamination including solvents, fuel and chemicals found in munitions emanating from the military base. The groundwater flowing through the Cape's sole-source aquifer is the principal source of drinking water for the area. Upper Cape residents have also been concerned about emissions from the Mirant Canal Generating Plant in Sandwich and the Air Force PAVE PAWS radar station in Sagamore. ...
