Residents mixed on plans for conserving land around Fort Riley JOHN MILBURN, Associated Press Wichita Eagle (KS) January 27, 2006 FORT RILEY, Kan. - Some wanted to know whether they could rebuild a house or barn if it burns. Some wanted to know how much money they would get for shunning lucrative offers from eager developers. But mostly, farmers and ranchers around Fort Riley were just looking for a little more information Friday about a proposal to create a 50,000-acre buffer zone to guard against future encroachment. Caleb Strauss, who farms near Junction City, said a decision to forgo development rights isn't one to take lightly. "It kind of boils down to dollars and cents," Strauss said. ...
