Groundwater Contamination Possible Near ShawAshley Monts WLTX-TV 19 (Columbia, SC) January 30, 2006 (Sumter) - For the last seven years, Danny Burkett has been working on his dream home. "I can be in my own little world here and be at work in just a few minutes," he says. His rustic retreat - built in a wooded area near Shaw Air Force Base - comes complete with his own well. "I just always thought drinking water was safer if it's never been treated," Danny says. Now, he's finding out that's not necessarily the case. A few days ago, he got a letter from Shaw letting him know there may be a chemical called trichloroethylene - or TCE - in his groundwater. ...
