Public water supply wells on MMR range to be tested By AMANDA LEHMERT Cape Cod Times (MA) February 18, 2006 SANDWICH - At the urging of the governor, samples were taken from two drinking water wells on the Massachusetts Military Reservation yesterday after traces of the metal tungsten were found in the groundwater under a Camp Edwards firing range. The samples from the wells - which supply water to Mashpee, Sandwich, Bourne and Falmouth - were taken a day after Gov. Mitt Romney suspended the use of the so-called environmentally friendly tungsten-nylon ammunition. The action was spurred by the discovery that tungsten had leached into groundwater in the aquifer under a small-arms firing range on the base. Wasting no time yesterday, state Department of Environmental Protection officials took samples from the two Upper Cape Water Collaborative supply wells on the northeastern portion of the base near Sandwich. ...
