Officials discuss perchlorate testingBy Rachel Gallegos Iowa City Press-Citizen March 16, 2006 HILLS -- National and state environmental officials met Wednesday with a handful of Hills residents to explain the latest round of perchlorate contamination testing and talk about future plans for improving the town's water. Test crews worked from Monday afternoon to Wednesday morning, taking before- and after-treatment water samples from homes around town to see if water quality has improved since the July 2005 test. Six mon-ths ago, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency officials installed reverse osmosis treatment systems at homes that had contamination levels of 18 parts per billion or more. The 19 homes were the priority during this week's testing, said Doug Ferguson, on-scene coordinator for EPA, Region 7 in Kansas City, Kan. ...
