Dahlgren hazards studied
A federal health agency has found that people living and working on the Dahlgren Navy base may be exposed to environmental contaminants. But in a report released this week for public review and comment, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry in Atlanta says any exposures "are unlikely to cause harmful health effects." The agency, a division of the U.S. Department of Heath and Human Services, looked at seven "exposure scenarios" at the King George County research and testing site. Items reviewed were the base's classified activities, river safety concerns for recreational boaters, drinking water protection, dietary exposure, hunter safety on former firing ranges, explosive hazards from methane in landfills, and lead exposure. ...
