Funding approved for MMR futureBy DAVID KIBBE Cape Cod Times (MA) August 1, 2006 BOSTON - In a last-minute flurry of activity, the state Legislature yesterday overrode Gov. Mitt Romney's veto of $1 million to plan for future missions at the Massachusetts Military Reservation, as well as $150,000 to contain the winter moth outbreak on Cape Cod and the South Shore. ... The MMR appropriation includes $500,000 to plan for new missions by the Air National Guard at Otis Air National Guard Base, and $500,000 for the planning and development of a homeland security training center at MMR. The Pentagon is moving the base's F-15 fighter jets to western Massachusetts. It has left open the question of who will pay to maintain the Otis air strip, which the Coast Guard needs to stay at MMR. ...
