Funding approved for MMR future

BOSTON - In a last-minute flurry of activity, the state Legislature 
yesterday overrode Gov. Mitt Romney's veto of $1 million to plan for 
future missions at the Massachusetts Military Reservation, as well as 
$150,000 to contain the winter moth outbreak on Cape Cod and the South 
Shore.

The MMR appropriation includes $500,000 to plan for new missions by the 
Air National Guard at Otis Air National Guard Base, and $500,000 for the 
planning and development of a homeland security training center at MMR.

The Pentagon is moving the base's F-15 fighter jets to western 
Massachusetts. It has left open the question of who will pay to maintain 
the Otis air strip, which the Coast Guard needs to stay at MMR.
