Beehler's nomination is already generating controversy as many are questioning whether he has the needed qualifications to serve as IG and whether his previous service at DOD shows that he does not have the required independence. While at DOD, it is reported that he spearheaded an unsuccessful legislative push for Congress to reduce EPA's authority to regulate defense facilities as well as initiatives to reduce state and EPA oversight of DOD cleanups, which are viewed as a direct conflict with the needed independence of an IG. - - Laura Olah, Executive Director Citizens for Safe Water Around Badger E12629 Weigand's Bay South Merrimac, WI 53561 Phone: (608) 643-3124 Email: info@cswab.org <mailto:info@cswab.org> Website: www.cswab.org <http://www.cswab.org>
