TITLE: RAB Members Support Well Testing in Merrimac

Dear Editor:

Confirmation of low levels of explosives in groundwater at the northeast boundary of Badger Army Ammunition Plant prompted the following members of the Restoration Advisory Board to pass a resolution asking for immediate testing of nearby private wells.

On August 14, board members supported testing of homes in the Town of Merrimac that are located within ½ mile of any monitoring well detecting contamination.  If anything is found in this initial round, the board recommended expanding the radius of private well testing to 1 mile.

The members also agreed that additional steps, including the installation of offsite monitoring wells, should be implemented in order to better define the risks to groundwater and nearby residents.
