300 Area cleanup ahead of scheduleBy Annette Cary Tri-City Herald (WA) September 4, 2006 The part of the Hanford nuclear reservation most visible to the public is starting to look a little bare. Only a few buildings remain in the north end of the 300 Area north of Richland. Look down Ginko Street in the 300 Area, and concrete pads are all that remain of many of the gray buildings that once stood there. Today, you can see the Columbia River at the end of the street. When Washington Closure Hanford took over work to clean up Hanford along the Columbia River a year ago, it told the Department of Energy it would have 21 buildings demolished at the site by the end of this month. Already 62 are down and the contractor expects to have 70 demolished by the end of the month. A little more than half of those are in the 300 Area. ...
