Our Opinion: D-M, Tucson - improving the relationship Davis-Monthan became a military base in 1925. Growth since then has changed both the base and the city of Tucson. Editorial Tucson Citizen October 2, 2006 Tucson needs Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. And the Air Force needs to have a base in Tucson, close to established bombing and practice ranges. That's the underlying premise behind the Military-Community Compatibility Committee, a 28-member panel that has been working to ease the inevitable conflicts that crop up between people who fly jets and residents who value peace and quiet. The committee members reached consensus on 15 recommendations that, if put into force, would greatly improve the sometimes-fractious relationship between Tucsonans and the base. ...
