Picatinny to clean up contaminants Arsenal to fix landfills, testing ranges, ground water BY MICHAEL DAIGLE PARSIPPANY DAILY RECORD (NJ) November 6, 2006 ROCKAWAY TWP. --Picatinny Arsenal has agreed to cleanup plans for eight contaminated areas, according to the third five-year review of efforts to reverse the damaging effects of a century of military-industrial activity. The eight sites are covered under five "records of agreement" signed in the past three years by Picatinny. The sites include old landfills, testing ranges, ground water and industrial sites. Picatinny has 160 recognized contaminated sites, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, which in 1990 listed Picatinny on its Superfund list. The decision followed about 15 years of investigation by the Army, which operates Picatinny, the EPA and the state Department of Environmental Protection. ...
