San Diego voters ground Miramar initiative

SAN DIEGO — San Diego County voters rejected Tuesday a local initiative 
that would have continued pressure on the military to share or turn over 
Marine Corps Air Station Miramar for use as an international airport.

The nonbinding initiative, known as Proposition A, garnered only 38 
percent of the vote, failing a measure strongly opposed by Marine Corps 
leaders and military officials, including Navy Secretary Donald Winter. 
The proposition failed 349,731 to 213,981 according to the San Diego 
County Registrar's Office.
