Water tests for tungsten stump labsBy AMANDA LEHMERT Cape Cod Times November 24, 2006 As Army scientists and state environmental regulators test groundwater under Camp Edwards for tungsten bullet contamination, they also face a test of their own. "There is not a standard cookbook procedure for how to test for tungsten," Benjamin Gregson of the Army Groundwater Study Program at Camp Edwards said this week. The Army used tungsten bullets at the base in place of lead ammunition from 1999 to 2006. Although the Army introduced the tungsten bullets as safe "green ammunition," the discovery of tungsten in Camp Edwards groundwater prompted Gov. Mitt Romney to suspend use of tungsten bullets at the base. Federal regulators are now reviewing tungsten's toxicity. ...
