Tungsten problem a national issue

The trouble with tungsten is not just an Upper Cape problem.


Several million rounds of the tungsten-nylon 5.56 ammunition have been fired at Camp Edwards as well as bases across the country. And the bullet is just one of at least three dozen tungsten-based armaments in the military's arsenal.

Now military researchers are scrutinizing the health and environmental implications of tungsten and tungsten-alloy munitions, which are being fired in Iraq and training facilities such as Camp Edwards in the United States.
