Mercury to leave Hillsboro in June

HILLSBOROUGH -- Nearly 2,700 metric tons of mercury stored at a local 
depot will be trucked out in June, and a town meeting on the issue is 
being scheduled for next month, according to Rep. Mike Ferguson.

The 2,671 metric tons of mercury; along with 557 metric tons of mercury 
stored in New Haven, Ind.; and 1,262 metric tons stored in Warren, Ohio, 
will be trucked to the Hawthorne, Nev., Army Depot. Fourteen warehouses 
there are being upgraded to store the nation's mercury, Ferguson said in 
a conference call Monday with reporters.

Mercury will be removed in April from the Indiana facility, followed by 
Hillsborough's and then Ohio's stockpiles.
