City awaits word on land use study grantBy Karen Gleason Del Rio News-Herald (TX) December 25, 2006 Jan. 4 is the date city administrators say they will learn whether the city will receive federal funding for a study of land use around Laughlin Air Force Base. Del Rio International Airport manager Jack L. Richardson, who also serves as the city’s chief grant writer, told members of the city’s economic development advisory committee on Dec. 19 that the Department of Defense’s Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA) will inform the city Jan. 4 if it will pay for most of a Joint Land Use Study (JLUS). ... Encroaching urban development around Laughlin Air Force Base has come up every now and again since the base began operations, but never with more fervor than earlier this year in debates over a huge planned community called SE Ranch. ...
