For decades, the 996-acre Whittaker-Bermite site in Saugus was home to munitions and flare manufacturing and testing. When the company finally shut its doors, it left behind property that would test positive for perchlorate contamination - a revelation that killed a proposed 2,911-home development on the site. ...
