Joint interests Editorial Fort Worth Star-Telegram (TX) February 3, 2007Kudos to local communities for working together on a land use study that could help secure the future of the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth. Given the important role that the base plays in the economic health of Tarrant County, it's smart to study how development in Benbrook, Fort Worth, Lake Worth, River Oaks, Westworth Village and White Settlement might affect whether the base shows up on a future Base Realignment and Closure list. During a Tuesday Fort Worth City Council briefing, Mike Sims, a researcher with the North Central Texas Council of Governments, reported that base operations alone represent $1.2 billion in annual economic impact for the area. Losing that is a possibility that very few in Tarrant County want to contemplate. ...
