Parent suspects cancer caused by toxic school

In people with ALL, the bone marrow makes too many white blood cells that aren't able to fight infection very well, according to the National Cancer Institute's Web site. It may result in infection, anemia and easy bleeding. The cancer - which can quickly get worse if not treated - can also spread to the brain and spinal cord.

From 1947 to 1989, an incinerator, landfill and burn pits for the U.S. Naval Weapons Center were on the site, according to state Department of Toxic Substances Control documents.
